This 9 lesson course will provide an overview of Islamic beliefs using Imam ad-Dardir's classical text on Islamic theology, fostering a conviction grounded in evidence regarding Allāh, His attributes, His messengers, and the afterlife.
About the Text
Al-Kharida Al-Bahiyya
Al-Kharida al-Bahiyya (the Glimmering Pearl) is an introductory text for students of ‘ilm al-Kalam. It is popular for the easiness of its language, and the status of its author, great theologian, spiritual master, and foremost Maliki jurist of al-Azhar – Shaykh Aḥmad bin Aḥmad bin Abī Ḥamīd al-‘Adawī al-Mālikī (d. 1201AH/1786CE), who was a late Maliki scholar hailing from Egypt.
The Kharida is a 71-line didactic poem that, in its own words, is “slight and small in size, but great in knowledge.”
For hundreds of years, it has been studied and memorised by beginners of Islamic theology, and is frequently quoted by students and teachers alike because of its pithy expressions. A downloadable copy of the course text in both English and Arabic (links above) are provided as part of the course materials.
