  • Synopsis

    This course explores central topics in the philosophy of religion, covering arguments for God’s existence, religious experience, the problem of evil, and miracles. Students will critically engage with key philosophical debates, enhancing their reasoning skills and understanding of complex religious and metaphysical issues.

  • Aims

    The course aims to introduce key concepts and debates in the philosophy of religion, develop critical reasoning skills, and explore major theistic arguments such as the cosmological, design, and ontological. Students will examine religious experience, miracles, the problem of evil, and analyse the relationship between religious language and morality.

  • Entry Requirements

    This course is intended for all students of knowledge who possess a basic grounding in ʿAqīdah (beliefs).

This 12 lesson course is designed to introduce students to contemporary philosophy of religion in a manner that is accessible, interactive, and intellectually stimulating. Senior Instructor

Jamie B. Turner is a doctoral researcher at the Centre for Philosophy of Religion, University of Birmingham. His doctoral research focuses on the medieval Muslim theologian Ibn Taymiyya and his model of natural theology. Jamie’s broader interests are in the philosophy of religion, religious epistemology, and Islamic theology. He has published numerous scholarly articles and book chapters including, “An Islamic Account of Reformed Epistemology” (2021), “Ibn Taymiyya on theistic signs and knowledge of God” (2021), and “Islamic Religious Epistemology” (with Enis Doko) in the forthcoming Cambridge Handbook of Religious Epistemology (2023).
